Translating courses automatically

You have created a course that you want to translate for additional target audiences with minimal effort? Follow these steps to make your content available in another language.

  1. Open Knowledgeworker Create and navigate to the search.
  2. Search for the course you want to translate.
  3. Select More… > Translate Automatically... from the menu.
  4. Choose the source language and the target language.
  5. Start the translation by clicking Translate.

The course will then be automatically translated in the background. Depending on the size of the course, this process may take several minutes.

Translation options

Depending on whether your content has not yet been translated or a translation already exists, choose from the following options:

Create missing translations

This option is used to completely translate courses for which no translation is yet available in the respective language. For existing translations, this option takes into account all newly created elements that have not yet been translated, e.g. a newly added glossary term or a newly created Sharable Content Object (SCO). Please note that existing translations of a SCO are not checked for individual text changes or new sections. In this case, please select one of the following two options.

Create missing translations and update outdated translations

Knowledgeworker Create protects your content against accidental overwriting. Existing translations are therefore only replaced at your request.  With this option, Knowledgeworker Create also translates content that was edited after the last translation in the source language, in addition to all content for which a translation is still missing.

The SCO is the smallest unit that the system checks for outdated translations. If a change has been made, e.g. by adding a new text field, the translation of this SCO is considered outdated and will be completely overwritten if this option is selected.

Create missing translations and update all existing translations

This allows you to translate newly created elements and overwrite all existing translations of your content in the selected target language, regardless of whether any changes have been made to them.

Translating documents as media assets

With automatic translation, you can not only translate sections of text, but also certain document types that are included in the course as media assets.

Automatic translation takes into account documents that are created as a separate medium and documents that are added to a media asset as an additional file in the media editor (e.g. subtitles for a video in vtt format or an xlf file for a Knowledgeworker Coach scenario).

The following file formats are supported:

  • pdf
  • docx
  • pptx
  • xslx
  • html
  • txt
  • xlf (e.g. language file of a Knowledgeworker Coach scenario)
  • vtt (video subtitles)

Please note that there may be a character limit for the translation of documents.
