Translate courses automatically

Modified on Fri, 28 Mar at 2:37 PM

This article explains how to use the automatic translation feature in the authoring tool Knowledgeworker Create, helping you complete your content projects more efficiently.

Knowledgeworker Create is designed to enable quick content creation for international audiences. The integrated artificial intelligence supports you in translating content into additional languages—fast and without the need for a translation agency.

Automatically translating courses

Have you created a course you want to quickly translate for other audiences? Use these steps to provide your content in another language.

  1. Open Knowledgeworker Create and navigate to Search.
  2. Find the course you want to translate.
  3. From the menu, select More > Translate automatically.
  4. Select the source language and the target language, and define how existing content should be handled or overwritten.
  5. Start the translation by clicking Translate.

The course will then be automatically translated in the background. This may take several minutes depending on the course size.

Translation options

Depending on whether your content has not been translated or already contains translations, choose from the following options:

Create missing translations

This option fully translates courses that do not yet have a translation in the respective language. For already translated courses, it includes newly added items (e.g., glossary terms or knowledge blocks). Existing translations will not be checked for partial updates. For that, use one of the following two options.

Create missing translations and overwrite outdated ones only

Knowledgeworker Create protects your content from accidental overwrites. Existing translations are only replaced if you choose to. This option translates not only missing content but also updates content that has changed since the last translation.

The content object is the smallest unit the system checks for outdated translations. If a change is made (e.g., adding a text field), the translation of that block is considered outdated and will be fully overwritten if this option is selected.

Create missing translations and overwrite all existing ones

This option translates newly added content and overwrites all existing translations in the selected target language, regardless of any prior changes.

Translating documents as media

Automatic translation allows you to translate not only text sections but also specific document types included as media in a course.

This includes both standalone documents and those added in the media editor as supplementary files (e.g., subtitles in .vtt format or .xlf files for Knowledgeworker Coach scenarios).

The following file formats are supported:

  • pdf
  • docx
  • pptx
  • xslx
  • html
  • txt
  • xlf* (e.g., language file for a Knowledgeworker Coach scenario)
  • vtt* (video subtitles)

* available with KAI subscription only

Note: There may be a character limit for translating documents.
