Uploading Subtitles for Videos in Knowledgeworker Create

Modified on Mon, 14 Oct at 5:25 PM

In this article, you will learn about the benefits of video subtitles, which format is supported in Knowledgeworker Create, and how to integrate subtitles into Knowledgeworker Create.

Displaying subtitles is essential for language localization, accessibility, and improved user experience in videos. Subtitles make spoken language in videos and films accessible to a wider audience. They are typically centered at the bottom of the screen and should consist of no more than two lines to ensure readability and to avoid covering important visual content.

Subtitle files contain precise time codes that determine when the text appears on the screen and support the provision of subtitles in various languages, making it easier to translate and adapt content for international audiences. Additionally, subtitles enhance accessibility by providing subtitles for people with hearing impairments and can even include additional information such as sound descriptions.

Supported Format in Knowledgeworker Create

The VTT format (WebVTT - Web Video Text Tracks) is the standard format for subtitles on websites. In addition to time code information and the corresponding text, VTT files can also contain comments and metadata. Unlike the older SRT format, it supports advanced features such as colors, fonts, positioning, and text alignment.

Uploading Subtitle Files for Videos in Knowledgeworker Create

  1. Insert a media element at the desired position in your course.
  2. Open the media library and create a new media asset.
  3. Upload the video file in the media files section.
  4. Upload the corresponding subtitle file in the Additional Files section.

Please note that a subtitle file can only be added to video files, as the display of video streams depends on the settings of the external website.

Translation of Subtitle Files

A separate subtitle file makes it easier to provide videos in different languages. Translated subtitle files can be uploaded for each language version of the video.

The automatic translation feature in Knowledgeworker Create takes into account VTT subtitle files which are uploaded as an additional file during translation.
