Compression of Video Files

Modified on Fri, 24 May at 2:18 PM

In Knowledgeworker Create and Knowledgeworker Coach, the maximum size of an online training course for web export is limited to 2 GB. In Knowledgeworker Coach, there is a concrete upload limit of 100 MB for individual videos.

Therefore, it is important to keep an eye on the file size of videos when using video files in e-learning content. If the file size is too large, this can lead to problems when publishing online.

Some Learning Management Systems also have upload limits; for Knowledgeworker Share, for example, this is 1GB by default.

Before uploading your video files, use compression as an option to reduce the file size:

  • Open a video compression program.

  • Edit the parameters, e.g. bit rate, audio compression or resolution, according to your requirements. We recommend mp4 as the target format.

With some programs, you can also activate a setting for web optimization.

  • Start the compression process.

An alternative to video compression is embedding videos as a stream. This allows you to reduce the overall size of the course without having to edit the videos further. Learners then load the video directly from the streaming service provider in full quality and file size at runtime. Find out more about the use of video streams in Knowledgeworker here.
