If you have translated a course into multiple languages and are exporting a package (e.g., SCORM package, web package) containing all or several language versions of the course, the option to select a primary language will be available.
Effect of the primary language on exported content
Specify whether the course should always start in a predefined language.
When learners open a multilingual course in their browser, it will initially launch in the selected primary language. Learners can continue the course in this language or switch to another at any time via the learner menu.
If “Automatic” is selected instead of a primary language, the course will open in the learner’s browser language. If the browser language is not available among the course languages, a separate language selection page will be shown (e.g., a learner’s browser is set to Spanish, and the course is available in German, English, and French).
Selecting the primary language
The primary language is selected during the publishing process under the Share function.
- Start the course export via Share.
- Choose the type of publication, e.g., Web Package.
- In the next step, select the languages to include in the publication. The option to choose a primary language becomes available once more than one language is selected.
- In the Language Selection on Launch section, select the desired language as the primary language.
- Continue with the publishing process. The published content will now start in the selected language.
Previously exported packages of a course can be found under Share > My Packages or Share > Existing Web Publishings. Recently exported packages can also be accessed via your profile under My Packages. If a primary language was selected for a package, it will be indicated under “Starts in:”.
