Adding Learning Objectives and SCOs to Existing Courses

Modified on Fri, 21 Nov at 12:51 PM

Even in an existing course, the course structure can subsequently be expanded with new chapters (Learning Objectives) and subchapters (Sharable Content Objects). Depending on whether the new chapters or subchapters have already been created, you make the change in the editor or via the course settings and the learning objective directory. This article explains how to proceed.

Add a new Learning Objective or a new Sharable Content Object (SCO)

  1. Open the course to which you want to add a Learning Objective or a SCO.
  2. Switch to the editor and open the Sitemap tab.
  3. In the top area of the sitemap, select Edit to open a popup in which you can make adjustments to the course structure.
  4. In the popup, the course structure with Learning Objectives and SCOs is displayed.
Adding SCOs: Below each chapter, use the Add button to insert new SCOs.
Adding Learning Objectives: Below the course structure, use Add Chapter to add new Learning Objectives. As soon as you have created a new Learning Objective, you can use Add to create one or more SCOs for it.

Using the Unlink icon on the right-hand side, Learning Objectives and SCOs can be removed from the course structure. The changes are saved immediately. Note that changes to the course structure affect all language versions of the course. Select Close to return to the editor.

Add an existing Learning Objective

A Learning Objective is always inserted into a course together with the SCOs linked to it.

  1. Find your course in the course library and open the Settings.
  2. On the left-hand side, the chapter structure lists the Learning Objectives already included.

  1. Using the Add Learning Objective button below the chapter structure on the left-hand side, you open the selection of learning objectives. In a popup, select an existing learning objective by checking it and confirm your selection in the popup with the Apply button.
  2. In the course settings, you can adjust the order of Learning Objectives in the chapter structure on the left if required: Drag the learning objectives to the correct position using the double-dotted line. Save and update the settings to apply the changes to the course.

Add an existing SCO

SCOs can also be added to an existing Learning Objective.

  1. Find your course in the course library and open the Settings.
  2. On the left-hand side, the chapter structure lists the Learning Objectives already included. Click the Learning Objective to which you want to add a SCO. This takes you to the corresponding position in the learning objective directory.
  3. Use the Assign button in the SCO section to add an SCO to the learning objective: In the popup, select an existing SCO with Assign. If required, you can change the order of SCOs within the Learning Objective and move objects by dragging them using the double-dotted line.
  4. Switch to the course settings and apply your changes to the course with Save and Update.
