Setting due dates and validity periods for posts

If learners should complete a post within a defined period, you can specify in Knowledgeworker Share when the post is due or how long it is valid. This article explains what due dates and validity mean for the learning process in your system.

You can set a post's due date and validity directly under "Post completion" when creating the post, or later under "Completion criteria" in advanced post editing. Please note that subsequent changes of any kind apply only to new enrolments in the relevant post. They do not change the due dates or validity periods of existing enrolments.

The "Due in ... days" option determines within how many days a post should be completed. If the due period is exceeded, the post remains available to learners and can still be worked on and completed. The due date is shown in enrolment reports, so it remains clear later whether the post was completed within the specified period.

"Valid for ... days" defines the period within which a post can be completed. Once the validity period expires, the post is still visible to learners but can no longer be worked on or completed. This means that news can no longer be confirmed as "read", download files are no longer available, surveys can no longer be answered, and e-learning content can no longer be opened or completed. In enrolment reports, uncompleted enrolments that are no longer valid are marked with the "expired" status.

The due or validity period begins individually for each user when they are enrolled in the post, regardless of when the enrolment takes place. If the corresponding notification type is enabled, learners receive a reminder within a defined period before the due date or validity expires that the post is still open. When a post becomes overdue, learners and, optionally, people responsible and administrators can be notified.
